How serious is a left bundle branch block?
In older people with coronary artery disease, left bundle branch block is associated with greater risk of death. This is especially true for people with heart failure. Left bundle branch block is also linked to a greater risk of death after a heart attack.
How does LBBB develop?
What causes it? A variety of things can cause LBBB. For example, a heart attack can damage your heart tissue, making it harder for it to conduct electricity. This can result in bundle branch block at either the right or left ventricle.
Can a left bundle branch block go away?
Unfortunately LBBB is not reversible. In your case, in the absence of any structural heart disease and symptoms, the overall risk of cardiovascular morbidity or mortality should be very low.
Why is LBBB bad?
LBBB causes some damage on the mechanical function of the LV secondary to asynchronous myocardial activation, which sequentially, may trigger ventricular remodelation and bad prognosis.
Is exercise good for left bundle branch block?
After three months of regular exercise training with 30-minute sessions per day for five days a week, the patient’s symptoms improved with development of LBBB and chest pain at a considerably higher heart rate of 150 bpm (Figure 3). The morphology of the LBBB remained the same.
What medication is given for heart block?
Drugs used to treat AV Heart Block

Is LBBB normal?
While LBBB by itself may be a normal occurrence, it is important to refer these patients to a cardiologist to determine that there is no underlying cardiac pathology. In otherwise healthy individuals, LBBB does not confer any specific or additional risk. Mortality hazard ratio (HR) for LBBB is only 1.3 of normal.
Does exercise help LBBB?
Which is worse right or left bundle branch block?
This prospective study demonstrated that men with left bundle branch block showed both a much higher risk for developing high degree atrioventricular block and a markedly higher hazard ratio for all-cause mortality than individuals with right bundle branch block.
Does stress affect LBBB?
Normally adenosine vasodilator stress is the preferred mode of stress in patients with LBBB, but paradoxically our patient developed LBBB during adenosine infusion at an HR of 90/min. The stress-MPI was useful in ruling out CAD in this patient which was later confirmed on coronary angiography.
What heart block feels like?
Typical symptoms of heart block are similar to those of many other arrhythmias and may include dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, fatigue, chest pain, or shortness of breath. Some patients, especially those with first-degree heart block, may not experience symptoms at all.
Is there a cure for a left bundle branch block?
If a person with left bundle branch block has a heart attack, reperfusion therapy may be given to restore blood flow through blocked arteries. This can be done by using an anti-clotting agent, such as streptokinase, to dissolve blood clots and increase blood flow to the heart.
Is a bundle branch block a serious condition?
In some cases, the presence of bundle branch block is a sign of serious underlying heart disease , and occasionally the bundle branch block itself causes problems. But in many other cases, bundle branch block is essentially a nonsignificant finding.
How do you identify a bundle branch block?
Bundle branch blocks are diagnosed by a 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG) and specifically identified as right or left-sided depending on the specific shape and length of the QRS complex, the pictorial representation of the ventricles’ contraction traced on the EKG paper.
Why does left bundle branch block is important?
Left bundle branch block is important because (in contrast to right bundle branch block), left bundle branch block usually indicates that some form of underlying cardiac disease is present. For this reason, anyone who is discovered to have left bundle branch block on their ECG should have a cardiac evaluation.
