The Leapster2 is NOT discontinued, and Leapfrog informs it will continue to support it and to develop games for it. We have the L-Max, Leapster2, and now also the Explorer.

Do Leapster games work on Leapster2?
Yes, the three platforms are fully compatible. Leapster2 game cartridges will work with Leapster (2003 version) and L-Max and vice versa. Games labeled as Leapster Explorer will not work on Leapster2, Leapster, or L-Max Systems.
When did the Leapster2 come out?
The Leapster is a portable handheld gaming system for ages 5-14. It was first released on October 7, 2003, with a new model design in 2005 and the L-Max with A/V hookups that same year, the Leapster TV in 2006, the Leapster2 in 2008, the Leapster Explorer in 2010, and finally the LeapsterGS Explorer in 2012.

Overall, we all love the LeapPad Academy learning tablet and highly recommend it for educational play for all kids from about 3 to 8 years old. The product has been provided by VTech/LeapFrog free of charge so I could experience it with my family; however, the thoughts and opinions are all my own.
